We have opportunities at home, days, nights, etc. THERE IS A PLACE FOR YOU TO CONTRIBUTE! It’s a great way to show your teens that you take an interest in their education and it sends a positive message that you consider the school a worthwhile cause. Not only will the school reap the benefits of your involvement — you will, too. By interacting with teachers, administrators, and other parents on a regular basis, you’ll gain a firsthand understanding of your teen’s daily activities. You’ll also tap into trends and fads of school life that can help you communicate with your kids as they grow and change (all without intruding on their privacy or personal space). Please see this important document: Parent Volunteers at BSHS.
Please consider the following volunteer opportunities and find one (or more!) that interest you:
Staff Appreciation Health Expo (spring) Black History Month (Feb)
Healthy Lifestyles Diversity Fair (spring) Help teachers (copy, chaperones, etc)
Landscaping Senior Inspiration Help students (mentor or academic)
Red Ribbon Week (fall) God’s Pantry Food Drive (Oct)
Help with mass mailings (a few times a year) Assist with Defender 5K Race in April
Help with Amazon Gift Wrap Fundraiser during Nov. and Dec. (volunteer to work a shift at your convenience—it’s fun!)
Donate food for receptions and staff appreciation
Prepare materials at home
We would love for you to share any special skills that you have as well!
Don’t forget! All FCPS volunteers must go through a quick screening before volunteering. Go to https://webapps.fcps.net/volunteer to submit your volunteer application.
