The International Book Project is a great place for high school students to volunteer. IBP promotes global literacy by sending books to developing countries, where schools and libraries need them most. We also have a small local donations program which ensures the program has an effect on local communities as well. We often need volunteers to help pack, sort, and organize books in a warehouse environment that requires light to moderate physical labor. Students can either contact me individually if they are interested in volunteering or arrange a group volunteer day of 7-12 people. The best time to volunteer is after school during the week, since we are only open 9-5 Mon-Fri. However, special accommodations can occasionally be made for groups who wish to volunteer on a Saturday.

Volunteer Opportunity for the Living Arts and Science Center

Summer Classes are scheduled between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday thru Friday, during June and July and through the second week of August. Students beginning their Freshman year of high school and older: If your schedule permits, participate in the *Summer Teachers in Training” program. You will be assigned to work with a teacher for a full week, 9 AM – 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM (3hr class) with the option to volunteer for lunch 12 noon-1 pm. You will prepare and present one lesson on your own, be observed and evaluated by the teacher, and complete a self evaluation form. This is valuable experience if you are planning to work with children in the future and certainly worth a line on your resume!

*Participation in this program requires a full week of attendance with one teacher for the entire class period! AM or PM Assignments for Summer Volunteers

Hours (9am-12noon/12noon-1pm/1pm-4pm).

Be a helping hand in a class even if only for a day or an hour.

Help teachers assemble materials before class.

Remain after a class dismisses to help the teacher clean up.

Gently redirect wandering children back to their teacher or parent.

Help with restocking and organizing materials.

Assist with an off-site activity/presentation.

Positive energy, patience, tact, and flexibility are useful attributes for making your time at the Living Arts and Science Center enjoyable and fulfilling. UK Healthcare Teen Volunteer Program

UK Healthcare is making plans for their Summer 2012 Teen Volunteer Program. During the Teen Volunteer Program, teens can serve in many interesting and rewarding volunteer capacities, including Nursing, Children’s Hospital, Markey Cancer Center, mail and flower Delivery to patients, Gift Shop, and the “Cookie Cart” at both Chandler Hospital and Good Samaritan. Teens ages 14+ are invited to apply. Interviews will begin April 1 and will continue through mid-May. Interested teens should call the Volunteer Services Office at 859-323-4117 and ask to set up a Teen Volunteer Interview.

We have numerous volunteer opportunities for you in patient care and non-patient care placements. Latino Leadership & College Experience Camp–Deadline May 25th

We would like to invite you to attend the 7th Annual Latino Leadership & College Experience Camp. The camp will take place from Sunday, July 29, through Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington, KY. Student participants will enjoy a week of college life full of cultural activities while they stay in the dormitories at the University of Kentucky. During the week of camp, students will attend workshops and college-like classes, get to know university professors and college students, and learn from Latino/Hispanic community leaders and professionals. In addition to this, participants will learn about topics such as leadership, identity, Chicano/Latino history, and community involvement. They will also be able to participate in sports, theater, art, music, and dance activities. Other activities include a College Fair, Fashion show, movies, dance lessons, and visits to other college campuses.

The camp is offered to students at the low cost of $40.00; the actual value of the camp is $350.00 per person. Fill out your application today because space is limited. In order to attend you must complete the entire application and have all the required signatures from your parents signed by Friday, May 25, 2012. The participation fee will serve as a deposit for your participation in the camp. Once your admission to the camp is processed, your camp counselor will call you with details about the camp and orientation during the month of June. The camp will begin on Sunday, July 29, at 1:00 pm. Your orientation packet will include all details and directions.

Estudiantes que participan disfrutarán una semana de la vida universitaria llena de actividades culturales mientras se quedarán en las residencias de la Universidad de Kentucky. University of KY’s Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Summer Programs

For current sophomores or juniors that are interested in a health-related career: Applications are now available for two of UK’s Area Health Education Center (AHEC) summer programs. There are two camps available – the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) and the Health Researchers Youth Academy (HRYA). SEP is open to sophomores and HRYA is open to current juniors. These camps are free for students to attend! All housing, food, and materials are provided for them. These students have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the healthcare field. Washington University’s High School Summer Scholars Program

Washington University’s High School Summer Scholars Program offers selected rising juniors and seniors (students who have completed their sophomore and junior year in high school) with an academic average of B+ or better the opportunity to spend five weeks on campus, take up to seven units of college coursework for credit with current college students, and participate in a variety of social outings. Hanover College Summer Academy

This year’s program will offer 13 different disciplines, including the new Civil War Institute. Scholars will gain hands-on experience while working with the College’s respected professors and current students in subjects that will help engage and expand the scholars’ interests as well as deepen their knowledge of a topic.

Some topics include Environmental Science: Ecology, Forensic Science, Website Design, Pre-Law, Acting: Intensive Workshop, Cinema: Movies We Love, Health Science, Psychology of Media, Nature Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, Video Production, and Civil War.
